Who we are
We are a small, enthusiatic and cultutally diverse group of people who worship in the striking Grade II listed church of All Souls standing on a hill in Little London in inner-city Leeds close to Leeds University.
As we find God in the numinous heritage of our church and in the fellowship of one another, so we recognise our calling to express that presence in Little London.
As we find healing and sanctuary at All Souls’ so we commit ourselves to sharing those gifts of God with others. As we learn in sacrament and scripture of the offering of Jesus to the world, so we stand for justice where people are oppressed. We inhabit a place of prayer where God comes to meet us even when we are far off. Consequently we live in the hope that we, God’s church, can reach those who are isolated.
We are inheritors and custodians of a place whose liturgy and material creations feed our souls and support us in our attempts to offer warm, welcoming, relaxed, participative and grounded worship, and inspiring music.
We work co-operatively, utilising our gifts and realising faith through interaction. At times we find the presence of God in some of the simpler and quieter aspects of our life together: mid-week said mass, encountering visitors who come when the church is open when there are no services, meeting up for church cleaning, and exchanging greetings in the Peace.
We have recently established working links with organisations engaged in community work, education, permaculture and older people. We recognise the need to make our presence more directly felt in Little London through publicity and personal encounters. We encourage local groups to use our church and under-croft for their own projects.
